Ok. It's a 'stop motion' film - think retro. It's cute, but the acting is rather weak, and the plot somewhat mediocre. I think it was a great attempt to bring back an old idea - but also don't think that the idea worked that well. As in... boring.

There's a lot of strange comments here mentioning a lot of strange comments here... How...strange... Anyway, ignoring all that: I like the old stop-motion movies and this doesn't look too bad so will give it a go.

This is a really solid 80s movie... It's got that magical quality that's so often missing in movies these days.

A lot strange comments here. In fact some are word for word from different people or the same person under different accounts. What’s up with that?

What makes me laugh about the comments and reviews is the talk about a lack of CGI when every single shot with either of the creatures IS literally a CGI shot. Yes, the creatures themselves are puppeteered, and beautifully so. But a LOT of those were done in front of green screen. Even stuff from original 94 shoot were done with clean plate shots, a requirement for a clean comp. Anything not composited in the 90s production was done using CGI with rotoscoping and mask tracking. The composite cleanness betrays this. This is a film absolutely to be praised. Not so much because it's a throw back, it isn't really because it was intended to release 30 years ago much closer to this film technique's time period. But for the extreme talent in making it, regardless of when it was made/released. As with ALL good movies, they know how to balance the tools in their toolbox and use them when they are needed. If a movie looks like it has no CGI, it has CGI... it's just been done in a way that covers it up very well, or blends the way it is supposed to. Top Gun Maverick is a really good example. "We shot this for real" is a technical truth in which they are being honest, but not in the way audiences think they are.

Reminds me of the old stop motion movies like The 7th voyage of Sinbad. They were a fun watch.
