Plot summary

Deep in the Himalayas, a group of sherpas kills a gigantic humanoid creature. Convinced that it is the legendary Yeti, Dr. Claire Collier organizes an expedition with her former student Matt Connor and hunter Rondo Montana, among others, to search for more specimens. But what awaits them is something that none of them could have imagined. A colorful fusion of real image and stop-motion that is reminiscent of fantastic films from the 1980s.

_The Primevals_ is a production that could best be described as painfully ’90s. The acting is unbearable and the writing, when it isn’t ripping off other films, tries to make a simple premise complicated but somehow fails at every opportunity. But if you’re a fan of animation and stop-motion, then those sequences are absolutely worth enduring the torture. The compositing between live-action and the animation looks so well-done as it looks like the digital evolution of what Ray Harryhausen accomplished with his career for decades. **Full review:** https://bit.ly/theprimevals

The last great stop motion film?

I really wish I could give this movie a ten rating for the amount of heart that was put into it. This was a nice nostalgic trip back into time for those of us who grew up with these fantastical, silly, yet still entertaining movies.Ray Harryhausen was such an inspiration for so many people, and I think David Allen did a fantastic job and it's sad that he wasn't alive to see his last project come to fruition.My thanks to all that helped pay for the completion of this film.I would say this was better than half of all the Doug McClure movies I used to watch. Some acting was bad, some wasn't. Some of the writing was good, some wasn't. Still, I was entertained, and that was all I was hoping for.

Not what I expected.

The Primevals was a strange choice for Perth's Revelation Film Festival. Rev has previously hosted films such as The American Astronaut, The Fall, and Atmo Horrox. I was anticipating something in that rather offbeat vein.

What I got instead was a Saturday morning kids' movie. Ironic, since Rev is strictly 18+.

It caught my attention because of the story behind it. And there's respect due to David Allen, RIP, and those who carried on with the film and completed it. But it did seem out of place in the festival program.

That said, it had King Kong's cousin the Abominable Snowman, good space alien reptiles, bad space alien reptiles, reptile/human primitives, and spectacular scenery. And Nanny - sorry, Juliet Mills. All in all, I got my money's worth.
