A republic can be a form of democracy (specifically, a representative democracy without a monarch). But “republic” and “democracy” are not the same category. One describes the form of the state; the other describes the source and exercise of political power. They frequently coincide in modern practice, yet they remain distinct concepts. All public things are not ruled by the public. “Democracy means rule by the people — either directly or through elected representatives. A republic means a system without a monarch where the government is a public matter, run by elected officials under a constitution that limits power. They often overlap, but they’re not the same thing. The United States is a constitutional republic that uses democratic elections. The Founders deliberately chose a republic with checks, balances, and protected rights so that majority rule couldn’t simply override individual rights or the rule of law. That’s why it’s more precise to say America is a republic (or a constitutional republic) rather than simply ‘a democracy.’” Nowhere in any founding document is the word Democracy ever used or implied for a reason. They spent an amazing amount of time avoiding the term. All democracies always devolve into tyranny. Pure democracies do not preserve the rights of individuals. The 51% rules the other 49% in a democracy. America uses democracy but is not a democracy. The majority win is still highly constrained in its ability to wield power. You need a deeper dive into Democracy and Republic. Lots of words we use today are not defined the same way they were 250 years ago or even 2,500 years ago. Sometimes people try to argue using 2,000 yr old definitions because they are originalists, while some people roll with modern usages. A best practice would be to figure that out before jumping to a conclusion. All sides are consistently confidently incorrect. It is hardly just the right thing. Lots of people seem to think a similar thing is always the same thing, but one should remember the word similar does not mean same. Hope that helps. Class dismissed.

@fuhrer_klaun well said... As a Venezuelan living in Venezuela, I can assure you, some claims in the trailer are exaggerated sin thre have been several years without protests.. since the election actually, which maduro won, but most likely stole.. but other than that, people live peacefully every day.. of course dealing with inflation and such, but most people live their lives normally.. that said, the president should have gone away a long time ago
The comments show exactly the main cultural and societal problem we all face today. Some people attack the film and some defend it, all in. The truth is that, like most political topics, the truth is somewhere in the middle but we are so polarized that nobody is whiling to concede an inch or even listen to the other side. As a Venezuelan, born and raised, i can confirm that some things in this movie are portraited correctly and some are propaganda and dismissing the other side doesn't get us anywhere.
The reviews here are comical. From the people who try to conflate a correlation between asylum seekers and illegal aliens just shows they are not competent to even have an opinion on current events. Then you have the people who can't contain their political agendas. Comments creating straw man arguments such as accusing people who reject the "woke" culture as being better than any other person. Or those that can't recognize that it's not a question of being better it's simply a question of the root cause of the cancer that is festering and dragging the entire world into the sewer. Films like this are designed to shape opinions not give people information for them to form their own opinions. That is obvious by the reviews where people conflate their opinions with facts and try to push correlations that don't exist simply because the author wants to believe that they do. In the end the film makes one point. The World is going down the toilet. Unfortunately the people in these "oppressed" countries are getting what they deserve because they allowed the leadership to put them into that position. It's as simple as that. It's not a problem the United States can fix either through providing asylum to every single refugee from every nation nor in regime change. Both perspectives are short sighted at their center. People on the left can't see past the end of their nose and people on the right can't see past the end of their apathy. The film is powerful. Not because it necessarily tells the truth because the truth nowadays has somehow become "personal" which is in itself absurd. People who say that's my truth are actually saying that's my fantasy that I choose to believe. Truth is not subjected to feelings but objective evidence. There is little objectivity in this film. It is designed to elicit an emotional response which is why people leave the theater crying. That doesn't mean it's truthful or accurate. People can draw their own conclusions but one thing is for sure. People who use these reviews as forums to spout off on their personal political agendas becomes boring.
Prepare and embrace for another regime change CIA operation in Venezuela. But... but its not about oil.... its all about "freedom" and "democracy" against Maduro "tyrannical regime". Sure bro, who wouldn't believe that. Remember how America did good job in Iraq, Libya, Syria? Gee, those countries are soooo prosperous and happy now... NOT. Those countries are destroyed and people are desperate to flee as much far away. Another cinematic gem made to manufacture consent for the most propagandized and most politically and historically illiterate audience in the world: Americans!
"freedom fighter",,,, "tyrannical regime" another gem for brain dead muricans made to propagandize them for another regime change CIA operation in Venezuela... LOL
@StraightAboveYou your kind that keep on labeling everything as Woke, do you think you are better than any other person. You are disgusting.

movieguy29483 doesn't understand that a Republic is a form of democracy like mushrooms are a form of fungus. Just look at the word rePUBLIC. The right is so often so confidently incorrect.
