A republic can be a form of democracy (specifically, a representative democracy without a monarch). But “republic” and “democracy” are not the same category. One describes the form of the state; the other describes the source and exercise of political power. They frequently coincide in modern practice, yet they remain distinct concepts. All public things are not ruled by the public. “Democracy means rule by the people — either directly or through elected representatives. A republic means a system without a monarch where the government is a public matter, run by elected officials under a constitution that limits power. They often overlap, but they’re not the same thing. The United States is a constitutional republic that uses democratic elections. The Founders deliberately chose a republic with checks, balances, and protected rights so that majority rule couldn’t simply override individual rights or the rule of law. That’s why it’s more precise to say America is a republic (or a constitutional republic) rather than simply ‘a democracy.’” Nowhere in any founding document is the word Democracy ever used or implied for a reason. They spent an amazing amount of time avoiding the term. All democracies always devolve into tyranny. Pure democracies do not preserve the rights of individuals. The 51% rules the other 49% in a democracy. America uses democracy but is not a democracy. The majority win is still highly constrained in its ability to wield power. You need a deeper dive into Democracy and Republic. Lots of words we use today are not defined the same way they were 250 years ago or even 2,500 years ago. Sometimes people try to argue using 2,000 yr old definitions because they are originalists, while some people roll with modern usages. A best practice would be to figure that out before jumping to a conclusion. All sides are consistently confidently incorrect. It is hardly just the right thing. Lots of people seem to think a similar thing is always the same thing, but one should remember the word similar does not mean same. Hope that helps. Class dismissed.

What an absolutely incredible movie. You do not hate the FBI and the media enough. He ended up suing everyone involved in the media, plus the phuqin college, for starting it all, and he ended up with $2 million +- in settlements. The FBI agents' careers were damaged beyond repair for their treatment of him and his family. Richard ended up marrying some woman and living out the rest of his short life on a farm with his wife. The media in the USA has got to be brought to heel. Their blind rush to be the first with news is an unpardonable sin. They don't care who they hurt and they do it over and over. They seem incapable of learning the lessons their endless lawsuits are meant to teach. Just because both industrries have incredible people working for them does not excuse their lies that is inherent in their systemic failures on the American people. Where's the Tylenol?!? God bless America. This movie will piss you off.

I enjoyed this. It was a funstupid little ride meant to help forget the bs for just a few hours. Aaaaaaaaaand back to reality.

This is a brilliantly good film. The guy that plays Ben Franklin is a master. It's serious and hilarious at the same time. The debates in Congress are taken from the minutes of the meetings. They reaally went after each other like the way the film portrays. How the US finally declared our independence and ultimately won the war are truly miracles. Highly recommend.
