This movie is the start of the history to demonization of cannibis. William Hearst and the his cohorts of the Dow family to lobby the get cannabis listed as a schedule 1 drug, basically outlawing the plant. Hearst, who was heavily invested into the lumber industry, and the Dow family chemical textiles and even pharmaceuticals, would gain control and corner their perspective markets. This is an early look at mainstream media propaganda influencing large target audiences. As a child, I asked the question, "how can another person (man) tell another he can't use a plant that grows on the earth?" Go figure.
