@blindmachine - you must not like scifi very much. the NCC-1701 didn't have a butchers shop in it because like any battleship, it kept stores of meat rather than livestock. they still ate animals. it wasn't until they had the replicators on the 1701-D that they created food on board the ship.

wrongly labeled and categorized as kubrick directed film; kubrick was hired to direct early on in preproduction but then quit prior to the beginning of filming; brando himself directed the film initially, going over schedule (x2) and over budget (x3.5); someone else should get co-director credit but it's not known who because brando quit after turning in a 280 minute version of film, and then paramount hired someone to cut that down to 140 and shoot a completely different ending

Loosely based on the Japanese Chushingura legend, which is inspired by a true story. If you're looking for a fathful adaptation, there are many Japanese versions. This is a fantasy story with magical creatures. I found it fun and enjoyable for what it is - although there is no escaping a real downer of an ending.

It's decent through the majority of the film. Unfortunately they want a twist ending, and that would be alright if it was done with a big reveal like Serling or Shyamalan. Instead, they reveal a twist, and then another, and then another, and finally a fourth! At that point, it's just tiresome.

I'm not going to spoil the ending but it's the sort of thing that a few people will like very much, but will probably annoy most. I will say this though. It's not sci-fi. It pretends to be in the first act, but it's not. I'd grade it as a C+. Performances and production values were B+ but the script is a D.

@Bogeydefman3 'Law enforcement' is a broader term which is not identical in meaning to 'police.' Policemen are members of a Police Department whereas law enforcement also includes the FBI, ATF, DEA, ICE, CBP, federal marshals, county sheriffs, and enforcement arms of the IRS, BLM & USBR, Secret Service anti-counterfeiting operation, Postal Inspector fraud investigation, etc.
