Plot summary

From Oscar-winning filmmakers Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, "Wild Life" follows conservationist Kris Tompkins on an epic, decades-spanning love story as wild as the landscapes she dedicated her life to protecting. After falling in love in mid-life, Kris and the outdoorsman and entrepreneur Doug Tompkins left behind the world of the massively successful outdoor brands they'd helped pioneer like Patagonia, The North Face, and Esprit, and turned their attention to a visionary effort to create National Parks throughout Chile and Argentina. "Wild Life" chronicles the highs and lows of their journey to effect the largest private land donation in history.

Wild Life is an exquisitely moving and visually

Wild Life is an exquisitely moving and visually breathtaking documentary that intertwines a decades‑long love story with the urgent call to protect our planet. Directed by Oscar‑winners Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, the film honors conservation icons Doug and Kris Tompkins by chronicling their remarkable journey—from founding iconic outdoor brands like The North Face, Esprit, and Patagonia, to orchestrating the largest private land donation in history to create national parks in Chile and Argentina. Though it lacks the vertigo‑inducing tension of Free Solo, Wild Life is no less stirring, offering an emotional core built on love, loss, and legacies of the land that we leave behind.

My initial reaction was positive, although I admit

My initial reaction was positive, although I admit to pushing back some issues I began having. I knew little about the Tompkins so I learned for sure. However, after reading some of the critism I have to say it is mostly fair. The film teases a few threads or themes that it doesn't fully explore which was frustrating and it completey side steps some pretty crucial questions and POV's which is irresponsible for a true documentary. It's clear the filmmakers hold the Tompkins in great reverance which is why so many felt it was a PR peice.
