Plot summary

As the result of a head injury, brilliant computer scientist Harry Benson begins to experience violent seizures. In an attempt to control the seizures, Benson undergoes a new surgical procedure in which a microcomputer is inserted into his brain. The procedure is not entirely successful.

Truthfully, it's hard to imagine a movie that

Truthfully, it's hard to imagine a movie that is more bland than The Terminal Man. It's the vanilla of ice creams, the Air Supply of rock and roll and the cloudy day of summer all rolled into one and equally forgettable. Other than the intriguing premise of a society that can implant electrodes in the brain to modify behavior, the whole exercise is rather dull. From a technical perspective, it's not horrible, as it is competent in most regards. The problem stems from the incredibly bland characters and the incredibly bland way in which they are portrayed, with actors slouching their way through scenes and reciting their lines without emotion. This is a film that will be forgotten soon after the credits roll.

A very interesting sci-fi plot for the time

A very interesting sci-fi plot for the time that packs a handful of important and potentially impactful themes made into feel like a medical documentary at its best moments. There are so many ways this could've been made but it seems that the choice of making it a tedious procedural affair was intentional. This is a bit like a sequel to A Clockwork Orange to make you understand that you can't shackle the brain which might be why Kubrick liked this. But it fails miserably at being anywhere near as effective.
