Plot summary

In the Australian Outback, the Carmody family--Paddy, Ida, and their teenage son Sean--are sheep drovers, always on the move. Ida and Sean want to settle down and buy a farm. Paddy wants to keep moving. A sheep-shearing contest, the birth of a child, drinking, gambling, and a racehorse will all have a part in the final decision.

As a world traveling sheepshearer in 1980's I can tell you the lifestyle, attention to detail, laid back attitude, hard work, fights, shed living and nomatic life is accurate in this film. I cry when I watch it. The competitiveness in the shearing shed is daily and real. The independence and lifestyle, as real as can be shown on the screen. I know, I lived it for 10 years of my life.

Billed as an epic, but this is more

Billed as an epic, but this is more episodic and character driven and that is by no means a bad thing. Also everyone in the cast is more low key than you might expect which was a welcome choice.
