Plot summary

Seventy-five years after Brad Washburn, one of the greatest aerial mountain photographers of all time, first shot Alaska’s Denali Mountain from the open door of an airplane, climbing buddies Renan Ozturk, Freddie Wilkinson, and Zack Smith look at some of his mountain photographs and have this crazy idea. Rather than go up, their dream is to go sideways across the range’s most foreboding peaks, the Moose’s Tooth massif. It’s a fresh new way to explore the same landscape Washburn first discovered. As the group endures rough conditions, disintegrating ropes, and constant rockfall, their desire to be the first to complete the audacious line grows into an obsession. But friendships begin to fray when Renan suffers a near-fatal brain injury, forcing all three partners to decide what’s most important to them.

One of my favourite mountain films. The majesty of the Alaskan mountains take your breath away. Best watched with a killer surround sound system hooked up to your TV.

Every portion of the film having to do

Every portion of the film having to do with the contemporary climber bros was truly insipid. The historical portion of the film that concerned the history of aerial photography was actually interesting. They should have simply made a film about Bradford Washburn. It was almost as if the climber bros who made the film were using Washburn's fame and artistic, alpine, and cartographic accomplishments to bolster their brands. Every aspect of the film having to do w today's climber bros was melodramatic, bathetic, and just truly daft. For those who love great climbing films, this is not one of them. Watching a group of 30 year old white dudes who are all clearly not very bright opine about their "quest" was cringe-inducing.
