Plot summary

A WWII veteran escapes his care home in Northern Ireland and embarks on an arduous but inspirational journey to France to attend the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, finding the courage to face the ghosts of his past.

This movie is a bit corny and predictable

This movie is a bit corny and predictable, but the predictable part should be expected. After all this is history. I loved the true story and this movie is a reasonable depiction of that story. The people in the story are generally nice which is a closer representation of humanity than we usually get in movies. Artie Crawford (Pierce Brosnan) is not depicted as a war hero, but just an average soldier who had some demons to deal with. What I love best about the movie is the way the elderly or often treated as prisoners. Artie basically escaped from a nursing home to go to the 75th D-Day reunion. It's a positive story and a positive movie. I watched it twice.

This war veterans movie was really good. Pierce Brosnan, Desmond Eastwood, Ian McElhinney, Clemence Poesy, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. This true story about war veteran Artie Crawford traveling to Normandy for the D-Day anniversary was dramatic, sad, and inspirational. It's about traveling to meet old friends for the anniversary of the famous battle of WW2. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see.
