I seem to be the only one, but there is something special in the film's serenity. It may be that I'm nastalgic, of course, because I remember so vividly that time of my life...and recalling the almost unbelievable notion of sailing away was powerfully attractive. In fairness to those who created the film, I think it deserves another look (in context) and given a few props for embracing simplicy as a guiding value to storytelling, and letting the visuals and music take a prominent role in drawing us in. I am curious how it would do now on a streaming service with a bit of promotion...perhaps it would find an audience eager to get a break from the reality of our world today.

Joseph Bottoms and Deborah Raffin based on the book by Robin Lee Graham with Derek Gill and directed by Charles Jarrott produced by the late Gregory Peck The dove is the only thing keeping one man afloat in life This autobiography is by Robin Graham; a young man that sets sail to go around the world and find a sense of purpose for 5 years Along the way he meets a woman Patti and they fall madly in love Robin sees the world and struggles to decide whether to stay on his present course at sea or choose a normal life with Patti Many challenges though include raging storms, looking after a temperamental cat, and sailing the waters all alone He also runs into his father during his trek facing the reasons why he left in the first place The film has such beautiful locations, a love story that’s sweet, a sweeping score, and a lead character that feels alive being away from home A young man that gets wiser telling the viewer sometimes you have to finish some things alone not just with someone else, we can make our own voyages, one person shouldn’t have us stop doing what we set out to do It’s always important to circumnavigate our lives next to the world
