Plot summary

After tragedy strikes Henry and Penny, he befriends a tenacious young girl and discovers she is constructing a raft to sail across the Atlantic to find her lost father. Together, along with some unlikely friends, they set forth to construct the vessel and subsequently rebuild their lives.

The Book of Love (2016) is a 107-minute-long

The Book of Love (2016) is a 107-minute-long US drama I saw on Prime in June 2026. This film gets to the point quickly albeit using narration and flashbacks inter-cut and overlayed with a single morning family scene which beggared my belief especially Biel’s scripting. Sudeikis’ goes through the most well-shaved grief I have seen while the director gives us aberrant behaviors. Ironic, given he beards-up by the 61st minute. He only grief ragequits at the 70th minute. This is not an acting issue; it’s story and scripting. I will also ragequit at the thought an architect dunking his pencils into their tub nib down, rubber up. Absolutely chaos. Their project takes days, weeks… yet it’s a weekender at most. Williams is clearly a skilled actor. Her accent sometimes sounded Bostonian to my Australian ear, same with Steenburgen’s. The ending is utter melodrama and so is the constant swelling music. Rewatch? No. Recommend? Maybe. 2/10.

I'm currently learning Italian and I found it dubbed in Italian. I then found the English version and I adore this movie. It may not be perfect but it has heart.

For all the so-called critics, I have this

For all the so-called critics, I have this advice to future audiences... do yourself a favor and ignore the critics' side of ratings on movies. Some of the best movies I've seen got very horrible ratings by these so-called experts. I found this movie to be entertaining and heartfelt. I especially understood what losing someone you love can do to a person. For the critics that thought it shallow or with no substance, bully for them. Apparently they've never been in that position to have lost the love of your life, let alone a child. Shame on them. This is a movie worth watching.
