Plot summary

Devoted to her family’s rice-cake–making business and the high school baton club, Tamako is a little slow when it comes to love. She’s oblivious to her childhood friend Mochizo’s affections, even though all their friends know. With graduation closing in and Mochizo leaving for Tokyo, will Tamako realise her feelings and tell him in time?

After watching "A Silent Voice", I sought out

After watching "A Silent Voice", I sought out all of Naoko Yamada's work. So, I watched all of the series "Tamako Market" so I could watch this film. For those wondering, you don't need to see the series to enjoy this film. This is a sweet, believable, charming story. It is one of the best animated romances I have ever seen. The part with the talking bird, Dera, feels very detached, and will be very confusing for those who haven't seen the series. There are also a handful of scenes that have very low brow humor. Jokes that do not match the wholesome tone of the rest. But beyond those critiques, I loved this story. The conflict felt real, the characters relatable and the conclusion satisfying.
