I disagree with the OD people, provided that the English dub is well made. I still don't understand why there cannot be 2 audio tracks (Japanese and English) so no one has a complaint.

Every movie is better in their original dub, because the voices match with the characters and there is a better synchronicity. So, I request YTS to upload any movie in their original dub.

Original Japanese Voice, please! This site should be only for the originals which would make even more high quality contents. Dub sucks in every way possible.

Such a waste for a beautiful movie because of the English dub.

The Heartfelt Distance of "5 Centimeters Per Second"

"5 Centimeters Per Second," directed by Makoto Shinkai, is a visually stunning anime film that intricately explores the themes of love, distance, and the passage of time. Film comprises three segments, each depicting different stages in the life of the protagonist, Takaki and his relationship with his childhood friend, Akari Shinohara. From the very beginning, the film captivates viewers with its breathtaking animation. Shinkai's meticulous attention to detail brings the landscapes of Japan to life, imbuing every frame with a sense of realism and beauty. The colors are vibrant, and the backgrounds are so richly textured that they often feel like paintings. This visual splendor enhances the feelings of nostalgia and melancholy that permeate the film. The narrative unfolds in three parts: "Cherry Blossom," "Cosmonaut," and "5 Centimeters Per Second." Each segment explores the changing dynamics of Takaki and Akari's relationship as they grow up and grow apart. 1. "Cherry Blossom" introduces us to Takaki and Akari in their early adolescence. Their innocent and tender friendship resonates deeply, and the initial sense of connection is beautifully captured through their shared experiences. However, a tragic event - Akari's move to another town - sets the stage for the emotional distance that follows. 2. "Cosmonaut" shifts the focus to Takaki's later teen years and introduces a new character, Kanae Sumida. Kanae's quiet affection for Takaki highlights the unreciprocated love he harbors for Akari. This segment delves into the difficulties of unrequited love and the frustration of longing, enhanced by the backdrop of distant relationships. 3. In the final part, aptly titled "5 Centimeters Per Second," the film reaches a poignant conclusion. Time has moved on, but Takaki finds himself stuck in the past, unable to move beyond his feelings for Akari. The title refers to the speed at which cherry blossoms fall, symbolizing the slow yet relentless passage of time and the bittersweet nature of memories. At its core, "5 Centimeters Per Second" is a meditation on distance-both physical and emotional. The film eloquently illustrates how time and circumstances can erode relationships, leaving behind fragments of memories that linger like echoes. The symbolism of distance is further emphasized through the film's dialogue, often minimalistic but profound, allowing viewers to feel the weight of unspoken words. Shinkai's work also touches upon the concept of 'intangible connections' and how technology, rather than bridging gaps, sometimes amplifies distances. Despite the characters' best efforts, life continuously pulls them apart, making it a relatable experience for anyone who has loved and lost. The film's score, composed by Tenmon, complements the narrative beautifully. The soft melodies evoke a sense of longing and nostalgia, enhancing the emotional weight of each scene. The music often feels like an extension of the characters' inner thoughts, encapsulating the complexity of their feelings and experiences. "5 Centimeters Per Second" is more than just a film about love; it's a poignant exploration of how our lives are shaped by relationships that may fade over time. It forces viewers to confront their own experiences of longing, heartache, and growth. While the pace may be slow, much like the title suggests, the film invites reflection, making its emotional impact resonate long after the credits roll. For anyone who appreciates beautifully animated storytelling intertwined with deep emotional themes, "5 Centimeters Per Second" is a must-watch.
