Plot summary

In the year 2000, Nevenka Fernández, 24 years old, Councilor for Finance in the Ponferrada City Council, suffered relentless persecution, both sentimental and professional, by the mayor, a man accustomed to doing his will politically and personally. She never decides to report, although she knows that she will have to pay a very high price: her environment does not support her, the society of Ponferrada turns its back on her and the media subjects her to a public trial. A story inspired by real events that turns its protagonist into a pioneer by taking an influential and popular politician to court for sexual and workplace harassment for the first time.

(CASTELLANO) Soy Nevenka es una película que logra captar la angustia y el sufrimiento de su protagonista con una precisión emocional que impacta. Mireia Oriol brilla en su interpretación de Nevenka, transmitiendo con sutileza la vulnerabilidad y la fortaleza de una mujer enfrentada a un entorno hostil. Urko Olazabal, por su parte, ofrece una actuación que provoca rechazo inmediato, llenando la pantalla con la misma intensidad que ha demostrado en Detective Touré y Maixabel. A very strong and moving true story about

A very strong and moving true story about a young woman being abused by her boss, a high ranking Spanish political figure, before #metoo time. Behind the camera, a talented female filmmaker who does a very serious job to make us feel the physical pain of sexual harassment.

Essential viewing, this is a conscientiously-made and well

Essential viewing, this is a conscientiously-made and well documented portrayal of a real-life politician boss and his abuse of power towards a young woman employee, Nevenka, making her life hell on earth because, while achieving an excellent work record she rejected him after a short relationship which she quickly regretted and tried to exit from, to concentrate on her career. Her subsequent legal action against her boss was not only unprecendented and beyond brave (he was hugely popular in his home district), but impacted on her life afterwards so that she paid a massive personal and professional price for speaking out. Excellent acting and thoroughly absorbing, this true story set in Spain over twenty years ago could not be more topical, today in the UK and in so many countries across the world. The film generates discussion and merits viewing as widely as possible by women and men, politicians and bosses, employees, parents, school and college teachers and students. As the director says, these situations are happening to women every day but the change is that now the responses are different - women are being listened to and some action taken to investigate and expose the perpetrators of such abuses of power. The film also highlights how colleagues and some friends who witness inappropriate behaviour or verbal bullying shy away from speaking out or villify the victim. Now that many more women and some men too are speaking out, such abuses are being taken seriously. A film that is altogether powerful and truly deserves to be seen internationally.
