Plot summary

A dark, hip, urban story of a barren and anonymous city where the underclass' sport of choice is ram-raiding. An exciting game in which stolen cars are driven through shop windows to aid large-scale looting before the police arrive. For Tommy, it's a business, but for Billy and Jo, it's a labour of love. As the competition between Tommy and Billy grows more fierce, the stakes become higher and the "shopping" trips increasingly risky.

An impressive first film for a director that

An impressive first film for a director that had subsequent great success shooting fantasy action flicks in Hollywood. The story is kind of blah, but the visuals outstanding given that this was shot on a budget of just two million. It doesn’t hurt that the protagonists are very strong including Jude Law in his first appearance. Watched on Plex with a generous side dish of election commercials.

I remember watching this film in 1998 and

I remember watching this film in 1998 and just recently watched it again and it still stands out as a unique, captivating film that perfectly captures the zeitgeist of rebellious youth in 1994. The film portrays generation X more accurately than the mainstream media at the time and that can definitely be shocking or surreal for viewers who were born much earlier or much later. I've read a lot of reviews from audience contributors that give it ★★☆☆☆ or ★★★☆☆ and it's pretty clear that they're giving this film a bad review because they simply don't understand the era when it was released. Instead of attempting to exercise basic logic or rational thought to connect or empathize with characters living in a completely different time in the world, they verbally destroy a brilliant and creative film by complaining about everything they couldn't comprehend or that didn't make any sense to them. If you're a fan of creative and entertaining direction and film making, willing to keep in mind the year the film was made, and do a quick google search to get a basic understanding of what it was like to be a Gen X youth growing up in a society vastly different from your own, then I definitely recommend watching this film. Overall Score: ★★★★☆
