A real surreal gem of late 70s animation

A real surreal gem of late 70s animation, with a great soundtrack. The film has that unsettling aesthetic typical of late 70s early 80s cinema, making it honest, unique and memorable. The plot is effectively simple which bounces off the dark dystopia which thankfully remains unexplored, which feels almost Lovecraftian. Its development story is equally interesting, and explains its perfect imperfection, which like many other great works, is born from free artistic experimentation. The soundtrack is one of the film’s greatest strengths, with Lou Reed, Debbie Harry, and Iggy Pop adding real weight and dimension.

Its electric passion, wonderfully vibrant and fluid animation

Its electric passion, wonderfully vibrant and fluid animation, raging personality, very original story like a time capsule, and its outrageously rocking and iconic music make up what the budget's shortcomings and some rather cloying sound design.
