Plot summary

A frustrated big-band promoter runs in to rock-and-rollers Bill Haley and the Comets at a small-town dance. He quickly becomes their manager and, with the help of Alan Freed, hopes to bring the new sound to the entire country. But will a conniving booking agent, with a personal ax to grind with the manager, conspire to keep the band from making the big time?

Rock Around the Clock is about as simplistic

Rock Around the Clock is about as simplistic as a movie can be. The story is as thin as a wafer, the script is full of clunky dialogue, and the performances and production values are passable but uninspired. Shot during the dawn of rock and roll, the only real reason to watch are the performances from Bill Haley & the Comets and The Platters, as well as an appearance from rock impresario Alan Freed. Anything that happens between the performances feels like nothing more than filler, an excuse to extend a short concert film into a full-length feature. Suggestion: fast forward through everything but the music performances to make it worth the watch.

A corny and dated but entertaining flick revolving

A corny and dated but entertaining flick revolving around the music of Bill Haley & his Comets. Features two performances by The Platters and a tour-de-force live rendition of the Comets instrumental "Rudy's Rock," which shows the Comets' frenetic showmanship in action.
