Political statements. Never likes those. This is one of those. The black decade was bad for everyone. Not just the women. It was a bad time founded by some bad bad people. Use religious or political dogmas, the result will always be oppression when in the wrong hands and minds.
To lose your enemy is to lose your value , but to know your enemy is the true challenge, clinging to the allegedly evolving way of life through advocating the determination of our values is what the Arab nations are suffering from as they resolve the restrictions of the cultures , the teachings of the religion , the embracement of modernity and the methodological conflict with different civilizations , this movie represents the old model of a Society-vs-Terrorists conflict which now are history as what the West recognize as religious leadership are rejected by the people in the arab world , and have no real inlfuence neither in the minds nor in the hearts of the true followers of the truth , but I wonder how would they obtain a value as they lose their enemy.
@fymetin - Just because you don't recognize yourself in their experience doesn't mean that you dismiss and discredit their story. The fact that you brand them ''infidels'' for thinking differently, exposes your narrow minded views.
As an Algerian, I do not recognize to their work, and I will not take it as a reference to the black decade, and all they do is staining the reputation of their family names like what Sofia Boutella did, and they are far from being Algerian because we are 99% Muslims And they are only 1% who we do not know. so, i agrre, worse then that, All who participated at this horror movie they pretend to be muslims, but in facte they lost faith & their way, And they became infidels!

A true masterpiece that vividly depicts what it's like to be a free, modern, and independent woman in a backward, oppressive, and misogynistic society. Only those who hate women won't empathise with the characters' struggles, and only those who have no heart won't shed a tear or two in the process.
