Thank you @DMMO! I was debating not downloading this, but based on your comments I am downloading it. Cena is a horrible actor, but better than the Rock. CM Punk is a better actor than Cena. Look at all the people Phil Brooks has got to hate CM Punk. You have to be good at something to make that many people hate you.
iamgorygore like a lot in this country really think movies are just for entertainment, when any movies specifically during the white people only rule era were full derogatory, malicious, fallacious, propaganda. birth of a nation, was not a horror movie to y'all, but it was to the rest of us who knew what it was really saying. horror movies have always had context to whatever was affecting America that era. its just facts.
I like it when the image is ugly. The ultimate film would be one where you can't see anything anymore, just to create the effect of a destroyed film. That would be amazing. But no great filmmaker has ever given us such a accomplished work of art.
@Big_eh It's a really lame technique that ends up looking fake and forced. If you want an old school, retro look then film on old equipment using older style film stock. It's still easily available. This is like directors utilizing bizarre aspect ratios (Dust Bunny) or swapping aspect ratios (Twisted) to invoke a feeling, mood, or create immersion. These techniques cause just the opposite and serve to break the immersion in very annoying ways. It's amateurish "tricks" used by filmmakers who can't create the vibe or style on their own.
In case anyone is wondering, the excessive film grain in this movie is intentional and not a technical issue with this print. Even though the movie was shot digitally, the DP chose to add the grain to give it a gritty "retro" aesthetic.
I find it a bit distracting but maybe it won't be so bad when I'm watching it.
