Putin is mass murdering tyrant who cares little for his people who he keeps under control with fear. Fear of speaking out, fear of supporting alternatives. Its a very old tactic to cry fascist when wanting to invade another country. Cry Fascist and say that Russians are being attacked by another country.. And oh do shut up with Western this and Western that especially if you are a citizen of one of the democracies.... at leatst you are alllowed to voice your opinion without fear of being thrown off an apartment block. And as for those outside of the West, why is it that you copy the clothes, the music, it's products....

Westerners are the stupidest people of the world. Their government and media tell them to hate Russians and they do it without questioning a bit.

@lasseP So it is legal to invade and kill people if they live in a country without parliamentarian democracy? In which UN charter is this stated? BTW then Russia did nothing wrong, because Kiev regime is surely not a democracy, clown

@cnbtorturer Stay in your own country, and do not invade democraties, who are actually working, though not perfect. Nothing is perfect except Putin, of course. And no, the US did not invade a democracy in the last 50 years. Sigh.

It's by Bulgakov not Gogol, and he was Russian although from Kyiv, his writing career was entirely in Moscow. He was a Menshevik doctor through the civil war. I like the film, it's ambitious and August Diehl is the best Voland I've seen. There could not be a Soviet version because the Soviets prohibited the book, it was not widely available until the late 1980s. The Bortko version is a TV series in 10 episodes, not a fair comparison. Polanski was to adapt it in 1989 but the project was dropped after the Berlin Wall fall.

Lavish but totally uninspired plod through the novel, ironically the old Soviets who made truly magical films like Viy, would have done so much better

Even the official English subtitles in trailer don't look right. It reads like it was translated by someone who is a beginner in English. It doesn't flow like an English speaker would speak, but feels like more of a direct translation.

To all american idiiots criticizing Russia, you should know : 1- The Russian regime does not represent its culture 2- Russian litterature is amazing so is a big part of the population 3- If you were not brainwashed by your system, you would maybe try travelling around the world and even opening a book or two, to undersand that you live in an undereducated country! 5- Uneducated : proof is just listen to yourself..
