A slow moving French zombie film (technically an

A slow moving French zombie film (technically an infection outbreak) that lacks much of a plot. There's nothing particularly original about this movie other than the fact it has a blind woman as one of the characters. Unfortunately her potential as a plot device is never really utilized, which is unfortunate since she's the most interesting element of this film.

http://letterboxd.com/zbender/film/the-grapes-of-death/ Holiday time on the French countryside! Even though itâ??s only October, Elizabeth and her new bestie are train rollinâ?? through the country. Sheâ??s off to see her fiancà(C), but her adventure is derailed by killer zombies. Pesticide has poisoned nearby grape vineyards and all the zombies are now killers. Thank goodness I donâ??t like wine. Elizabethâ??s journey is fairly straightforward. With chaos on the train, she has to march forth along the beautiful French countryside in order to find the vineyard where her soon to be hubby resides. Beautiful? Why yes indeed. The Grapes of Deathâ??s backdrop amongst which it takes place is something you wonâ??t see in horror films in general. Jean Rollin knows that in order to create tension and unease itâ??s not all about the jumps. In this vast countryside thereâ??s no inhabitants at times. When Elizabeth encounters others though most of them are not too kind, or pleasant to look at for that matter. In fact, my favorite feature in this flick is the grotesqueness of these ugly zombie fuckers. The ooze that just pours off their head disgusts and amazes. I caught my mouth drooping open in that amazement. The still shots of just the zombies staring, or shots of them laughing, and resembling human qualities creeped me out/gave me chills. Almost convinced me not to go back to France. Iâ??m appreciative of the fact that Rollin took his time building this atmosphere. Instead of building up a character, the premise is built on. It becomes more and more distressing town after town. What do these zombies do? What do they want? What motivations do they desire? Elizabeth works through as a vehicle to the chaos consuming everything and everyone. In my first visit of Jean Rollin, I am thoroughly pleased to the point of wanting to visit more of his work. Good for fans of beautiful France, wine, blood, purple clothes, face oozing and horror fans in general.
