really great film. ive seen it several times. somehow it brings me back to the early 80s of my life

re: ''pretty gross'' - maybe, but not for the reasons you're implying. it's a true story about a wealthy middle aged man seducing a poor underage immigrant girl. the gross bit is that decades later the adult version of the girl writes a memoir casting the episode as some kind of tale about female empowerment, which makes her an untrustworthy narrator and makes one wonder that she cannot acknowledge having been abused. then a talented director (annaud is skilled even if his judgment is dubious) turns the memoir into an erotic art film where the audience is supposed to feel bad for the humbert humbert character. that is pretty gross.
