Plot summary

The last of the Masutatsu Oyama trilogy. Oyama takes a job as a professional wrestler in Okinawa, but when he discovers that he is expected to take a dive, he quits in disgust. However, when a friend finds herself in desperate need of medical supplies, Oyama steps back in the ring to raise the money—but will he be able to follow the script this time?

The title of the film says it all

The title of the film says it all. Karate for Life contains fight scenes strong enough (especially a must-see dojo scene) to elevate it to classic status, so as long as you forgive its uneven story.

This time around Oyama has finally run out

This time around Oyama has finally run out of animals to fight and is instead set against crooked fight promoters and their slimy criminal cohorts. It's another fun film, watchable and doesn't over stay its welcome. Well worth your rental.

Go find a bear or ox to fight Oyama is a renowned martial arts expert that travels his countryside drinking and taking on all challengers; however, when a fight tournament against foreigners that offers to pay him money and represent the country, he enters the tournament. Once in the tournament he discovers corruption and manipulation that he can't tolerate. "His days were filled with booze and bar room brawls...but he couldn't forget his love for karate." Kazuhiko Yamaguchi, director of Karate Bullfighter, Karate Bear Fighter, Karate Warriors, Sister Street Fighter, and Tokyo Bad Girls, delivers Karate for Life. The storyline for this picture is just mediocre for the genre; however, the action scenes are excellent and Chiba is brilliant as the lead character. The acting was solid for the genre and the cast includes Sonny Chiba, Kojiro Hongo, and Hideo Murota. "Who are you?" "I am Oyama...karate fighter extraordinaire." Karate for Life is the final film in a trilogy that includes Karate Bear Fighter and Karate Bull Fighter. I adored all three films but found this picture my least favorite in the trilogy. I loved the mirror scene which was later stolen by Bruce Lee for Game of Death and Arnold in Conan: The Destroyer. Overall, this is a solid movie that is worthwhile to fans of the genre. "There is no end to my way or karate." Grade: B-
