When Slavs were owned, their up-keep and "rights" were expensive towards the end of it (which was as much of a reason to end it as abolitionism was). Once slaves weren't "owned", they had no rights, didn't need to be given housing, land for corn, cow, and chickens. And could be used to undercut the wages of existing non-owned slaves (the poor whites stacked into squalid city tenement blocks). Of course, it's not their fault. The ex owners waited till their new game was ready, and their compensation to fund the change was there before they acknowledged abolition. They'd hedged the gets all over again. You get hose exploitve sociopaths in all backgrounds and races. It's just more prevalently white in USA yet. @rayluv on the mainland USA, and Caribbean a black owner of anything much would be highly unusual. Whereas is Latin America, especially Brazil, the "line in the sand" isn't and wasn't so clear cut. Different cultures and add mxd a heck of a lot more freely as they were never subjected to WASP supremacy like USA was. Not all slave cultures/nations saw things from the same racial or cultural filters. On top of such, many movie makers are so young that the more modern standard education they go through tends to hold their knowledge vey captive to an overriding agenda to which their cultural Stockholm Syndrome keeps them held captive to (think how weak Christian movies are when you're not be of them, and they themselves can't see it as we maybe can as outsiders). Life ain't black and white. But we're all still groomed to act and react as though it were, and it only works for the few that the economies are designed and hedged for. So we get reduced to the deliberately self-sabotaging right/left reductionist filters such can never solve anything. If it does threaten to solve anything then it gets immediately attacked and blocks, or corrupted, watered down and made to serve the same old old.
