Stigmatized Properties: Possession follows a man who trades

Stigmatized Properties: Possession follows a man who trades fear for fame by living in haunted properties, believing the risk is worth the spotlight. While competently staged with solid technical elements, the film struggles to sustain tension and gives its protagonist weaker motivation than its predecessor. The result is a safe, watchable sequel that raises questions about ambition and consequence but rarely lingers in fear. Stick with it past the boring start-the payoff is worth the wait!

I'm going to be completely honest: the first part of this movie is incredibly boring. I was actually on the verge of turning it off and just skipping the whole thing. The storyline surrounding the main character is more than just slow-it's flat-out tedious. If it weren't for the mystery that eventually kicks in, I don't think I would have had the patience to finish it.However, once you hit the halfway mark, everything changes. I went in expecting a typical "exorcism" movie where a priest comes in and saves the day, but the reality is much darker. You don't just watch the haunting; you feel like you're being dragged into the mystery along with the characters. For fans of J-Horror classics like Ju-On (The Grudge) or The Ring, this film actually delivers some significant shocks. What really stands out is how they handle the spirits. There's something so iconic and unsettling about the way the ghosts are revealed-much like Sadako or Kayako, they don't need cheap tricks. Their mere presence on the screen, crawling out of the shadows of these stigmatized rooms, feels heavy and terrifying. It captures that creepy, lingering atmosphere that made the early 2000s Japanese horror so legendary. The "ghost" factor and the genuine scares are the only things that saved this movie for me. If the mystery wasn't as strong as it turned out to be, the boring lead character would have ruined the whole experience.Verdict: If you can survive the agonizingly slow start, you'll be rewarded with some top-tier scares. It's a love letter to the golden age of Japanese horror. Just keep your finger off the "exit" button during the first act-you'll regret missing the nightmare that follows!

Stigmatized Properties: Posession

A stigmatized property is an apartment or house that has a bad reputation because of a deadly incident or is haunted. Because of this, they usually become cheaper. Some people seek them out to save money, and certain realtors specialize in them. The comedian Matsubara Tanishi became famous by participating in a TV show where he lived in such places. This movie written by him is about a streamer who specializes in staying in haunted apartments. From early on, there is something special with the visual presentation. Colours, light and angles are utilized to make everyday spaces more exaggerated and otherworldly. One common gimmick is to during nighttime light up a wall in a way so that it shines with a strong colour. This caught my interest, so I looked up the director, who turned out to be none other than the master himself, Nakata Hideo. You will be in good hands when watching this movie. The scares mostly follow common patterns. There is not much new, but maybe it can be excused by saying that it is hard and maybe unnecessary to come up with new scares for every horror movie. At least it feels like the protagonist Yahiro is in danger. One insignificant detail that bothered me was that a ghost rang the doorbell. Ghosts are usually thought to be bound to a place where they will repeat their behaviour from life. It is not normal to ring the doorbell of one's own apartment, so that it not something a ghost is expected to do either.More interesting is the adventures and experiences of the the streamer Yahiro. A factor contributing to the threatening atmosphere is how he seems very isolated. Even the TV crew and other ghost hunters poke fun at him a little as a beginner. Even among them he seems lonely, while they are having the fun of their lives setting up their show.A lot of TV workers and various TV studios are seen, and even stars appear. Maybe the director utilized his contacts in the industry to show how things work behind the scenes. Something similar was shown in one of his first movies, Don't Look Up.The life of Yahiro takes a turn when he encounters the actress Karin and they start to hang out. Not necessarily for the better though, since their relationship becomes very troubled. This relationship is one of the more interesting and realistic aspects, and we get to see both Yahiro and Karin change as they struggle in their careers.Maybe it is not the most scary horror movie, but it is excellent as a ghost story.
