The musical numbers are the kind of goofy fun you'd expect and yet they are surrounded by a story that's more melancholy and honest than most musicals of the era. The movie balances these two elements rather well due to the strength of Comden and Green's screenplay.

I love this movie. It's verry playfull and fun, but is also kinda smart. It is about friendship, and life changes. The movie also criticize and satirize TV programs that exploit other people's misery to gain audiences, what i think that is a very contemporary topic. Some scenes may seem cringe, but what some people don't understand is that it's completely intentional. For example, some scenes in the "TV show" are intentionally exaggerated, and it's a kind of internal criticism. When Madeline dances and receives jewelry from men and kills them, i belive it is like a parody of Marlin Monroe in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." The movie have these little jokes about the entertainment world, which i think are verry smart and funny. This movie olso have some of the best dance scenes from Gene Kelly.
