Plot summary

A day in the life of reluctant hotel owner Dave, a man troubled by nightmares, his neighbour, his friends and love. Dave’s days and nights blend into each other as he wanders vacantly through the halls of the abandoned and dilapidated Hotel Poseidon, which he inherited from his deceased father. When a young woman knocks on the hotel’s door looking for a room, while Dave’s best friend wants to throw a party in the backroom, and a recurring dream haunts him, a surreal and grisly ordeal is set in motion.

A man reluctantly runs a dilapidated hotel, listlessly wandering its halls day and night. But when his friend wants to throw a party in the backroom, the man will experience a grizzly ordeal. Although made a few years ago, this film has the feel of works by Svankmajer and Lynch. A hallucinatory experience, it makes you gag, react, and get infected by the grime that covers the walls of the title establishment. I really enjoyed it!

This is an absolute translation of a feverdream. The Abbatoir Fermé collective is a group of stage actors that bring the darkest, raunchiest yet absolutely Lynch-like and drenched with black humour pieces of art to a stage. Based in Mechelen, Belgium, Europe, they bring dark, unfiltered originality and happy filthyness every time. This is their first (and let's hope not the last) vision brought to pellicule. Do not try to watch this movie with an ordinary eye, but open your mind to what essentially is a fever dream brought to screen. The story is complex yet undiluted, trying to make sense of it is both the point and futile. This one requires simply undergoing, and if you're able to do that you'll have a trip without consuming any psychotropic substance. The one thing that is absolutely required? Lay back and open your mind! This is not for everyone, but it is art and it will find its audience!
