Someone is killed, maimed or punched about every two minutes. Writing it out like that makes the movie sound a bit silly, but this is a stylish and entertaining, albeit bloody, crime thriller. Many of the perpetrators and victims of the violence are kids and that was a bit discomforting. But discomfort is Miike's stock in trade. I'm becoming a big fan of his films.

Takashi Miike isn't exactly known for being restrained, and "Fudoh: The New Generation" is a prime example of what the director is well known for, his ultra-violence & bloodshed showering across the screen. What begins as a standard thriller between Yakuza bosses, opening with a one-sided bathroom shootout & a beheading, is thrown into a wild direction of gruesome assassinations & revenge from a high school student, Riki, who also operates as an underworld boss & leader of school-age assassins which includes gun-toting five year olds & a teenage girl who shoots deadly darts from an unexpected area. God bless Takashi Miike & all his glorious unhinged violence.

Works as a badass, stylish Yakuza movie, and an absurd, hilarious, grotesque parody of same. It's a total blast, I had a great time.
