It is supposed to be part of the canon, but today this looks self indulgent. It is visually compelling, enhanced with the restoration of the color imaging. The story is threadbare: a middle aged bourgeois woman has strong suspicions that her husband has a much younger girlfriend. Most of the movie is elaborately staged imaginary sequences. In the end it appears that she is left alone but decides against killing hersef. RT gives the duration as 2:28 hours, but on MAX is ten minutes shorter. Unclear if this implies censorship of nudity. Rotten Tomatoes typically has pictures of the cast decades older than the movie. Here Fellini appears eternally young.

I know this isn't considered Fellini's best but this is so much fun! The use of color is gorgeous, and Fellini's wife is terrific playing such a unique character. And I just love her facial expressions. She's even better here than in La Strada.
