Plot summary

Sophie is a twenty-year-old American who has lived her life in isolation, cut off from the world. While on vacation in Palermo with her sister, she meets Giulio and his group of Sicilian friends during her final 24 hours before returning to California. Eager to break free from her sheltered past, Sophie embarks on a whirlwind romance with Giulio.

Absolutely dreadful, bad acting from the main cast

Absolutely dreadful, bad acting from the main cast, really bad. Storyline ridiculous, very difficult to come up with any reedeming qualities. It's shot fairly well, that's about it.

Ponderous in Palermo

A young American woman goes on an unlikely odyssey in Sicily. It's slow and not particularly interesting, but just about keeps your attention. The story meanders along, teasing possibilities, until it reaches the main event. It's hard to believe the protagonist goes along with what follows, it's harder still to root for her or anyone as the amoral drama escalates. You can see the ending coming the moment the final act begins. Decedent cinematography and music keep you engaged, although Palermo could have been exploited to better effect. Like so many modern films, does little more than pass the time.

All around ugh

I read on the lead actor's bio that this groundbreaking movie was simultaneously shot in two languages (English and Italian) so that it wouldn't have to be dubbed!! My question is... why? Who cares? Imagine how much money could have been saved if the director just filmed the movie in English and dubbed the Italian. Having two dubs of the movie (which is not groundbreaking as this has been done many many times before) doesn't make the movie any better.That being said... what is this sexist garbage? There is no way that Italian people can possibly think that this is the way men and women of the world act. Or is this how Italian men and women act? Should have just kept this movie in Italian. The main character is just as dumb and helpless as her character in Children of the Corn.... can't stop this ape-man from grabbing her face and forcing her to kiss him just like she couldn't stop her 8 year old sister from murdering an entire town of people. Cmon lady!
