Plot summary

It's the final chapter in this chilling, real-life story of Sheriff Buford Pusser, a good-hearted lawman set on keeping his town safe. Still distraught over his wife's death, he blows up every moonshine still in McNairy county and burns the brothels and whiskey joints to the ground. Having gone too far, he's voted out of office, but that doesn't stop the mob from seeking their revenge. Buford soon discovers how small his town is when he runs out of highway with the mob on his trail.

Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas

This is the meta installment of the Walking

This is the meta installment of the Walking Tall franchise where Buford Pusser get's to see a film version of his life. The story here is essentially about Pusser continuing his work as the righteous sheriff of McNairy County, Tennessee, taking a switch to a child abusing moonshine runner, busting up bars, and other assorted baddies. The main difference here is that this film rounds out Pusser's tale with the film culminating in the film version of his life and (SPOILER ALERT!) Pusser's own death in a car crash. Nothing brilliant here but I do love exploitation films with a southern flair (i.e. "Gator," Thunder and Lightning," "Framed," etc.) and like minded fans will enjoy this series finale. The film was directed by Jack Starrett, who made some really good 70s exploitation like "The Dion Brothers," "Race with the Devil," and "Hollywood Man" and he doesn't disappoint here. Overall, this film is probably not for all tastes, but if you do enjoy drive-in fare, you'll dig this one.

Meandering third movie that tries some interesting things

Meandering third movie that tries some interesting things but still doesn't live up to the original. Svenson still brings none of the charisma Joe Don Baker did for the role, especially when he once again has Pusser clear out a gambling den (compare that to the similar scene in the original film to see how badly it does). However, there was potential originally, with the contrast between Pusser & the Dixie mob boss, as they are both frustrated over not being able to get one another (Pusser is blocked by the law, while the mob boss by his superiors). However, it's never used to much affect as is the story of Pusser being 'too successful' & now that the county is cleaned up, he's no longer needed as sheriff. There is a interesting meta-twist at the end when Bufford over sees the making of the first movie about his life, but even that is not put to much use. All and all, just builds to an anti-climatic ending that is not worthy of the original classic.
