Wow, I'm shocked to be the first person

Wow, I'm shocked to be the first person to review this movie from 2022 on Rotten Tomatoes. Even the critics missed it somehow. This movie tries very hard to be a Christmas movie, although it misses the spirit of Christmas by a mile. The script is confusing and unnecessarily convoluted. The movie is trying to be a Hallmark Romance and a Hallmark Mystery at the same time and kind of sucks at both. The acting is dodgy in many places, but I don't think it's the actors. It's the dialogue and the situations created for the characters that make it difficult for the actors to give genuine performances. The villain is over the top and unrealistic, and only the actress makes it work because she's clearly having a ball in this role that would make Cruella DeVille cringe. Sara Ball is great as Emily (no last name). She's a lovely actress and mostly gives a genuine and warm performance in the film. Noah Fearnley struggles with his role and at times just looks like either he forgot he's acting, or the director used a bad take. The dog IS adorable. Honestly, it's not the worst Christmas movie I've ever seen, but definitely not the best. I think it just needed a tighter script that didn't try to create a convoluted mystery and surprise twists when the story didn't need anything like that.

Two different movies?

Within the first 10 mins, this feels like like 2 different movies. Is this about a spoiled designer who is of course spending Christmas in a small town that overdoes it for the holidays or a dog being kidnapped as suggested by the title? Or, is this a rom-com? Who knows? I didnt stick around to find out.

Does wholesome have to be boring?

In the case of this wannabe Hallmark mystery, the answer is yes. The storyline is 95% a faked dog-napping and 5% a fledgling romance. Not only does the story put the viewer to sleep, but apparently the actors as well. Lackluster story played out with lackluster acting is a recipe for a snooze fest and this movie accomplishes that.I rented this to see Noah Fearnley acting before he became a popular male lead in the vertical short industry. But his role here (and hence his acting) is entirely forgettable. The female lead (heroine) in this has little appeal in any facet of her screen time. Good pic to watch at 11pm....you'll be asleep in no time.
