Kurosawa's "Chime" is...good...but not fleshed out. For context: His 2001 flick "Pulse" (where the internet is turning people into ghosts) is chilling and relevant. Likewise, the 1999 made-for-TV "Kourei" (which notably centers on a little dead girl whose ghost keeps ominously hanging around the poorly lit corner of the protagonist's dining room) is heartbreaking. However, unlike those two striking films (and others), "Chime" seems half-realized. It uses some of the same ambiguous tricks and techniques from Kurosawa's other horror flicks, but the short runtime leaves pretty much every plot point unaddressed. I like that kind of dark, violent mystery (and here it works), but the vagueness might annoy you.
