Finally got round to watching this and it doesn't hold a candle next to the 1992 original. The film was incoherent and lacked suspense and atmosphere. The new iteration of the Candyman character comes nowhere near the inimitable Tony Todd. It seems they didn't grasp the original's Dracula/Phantom of the Opera-like persona. All in all, a disaster. 3/10.
As a straight, white person, this movie was not really my style. I watched a small portion and realized quickly that as a straight white male, I was expressing my privilege watching it and should be ashamed. So I did the only thing I thought would make it right, I turned it off and deleted the file.
Not as good as the original (who even expected that?) but enjoyable none the less. 6/10. Everyone calling this propaganda is an idiot, it's just the same blaxploitation take on horror as the original, but i am not a bigot so i can experience movies without bias, it's called freedom, you should try it.
Excellent remake, inferior to the original but a very acceptable modern continuation of the franchise. That is a very rare thing so ignore these trolls denying you that pleasure.
