Plot summary

Song Woo-seok is a lawyer with no clients. When his friend's son is falsely accused of a crime and tortured, he takes up the case and the course of his life changes for good.

Those idiots in a certain western country against

Those idiots in a certain western country against fascism, who are calling everything that opposes their views as such, have no idea what it is. They would do well to watch this film which is based on true events. Not being allowed to peacefully protest is fascism. Being attacked for peaceful protest is fascism. Of course, those committing crimes (e.g. assault, vandalism, looting) during protests should be arrested and prosecuted.

Don't let the poster fool you. It aint a happy movie. Song Kang-ho, the Korean Eddie Garcia, tells another story from the Chun Doo-hwan regime. It's another pesperspective in the life of an attorney, he's already done THE BARBER and THE TAXI DRIVER, which story sits in the same abusive regime. I love how Song's character changed through out this powerful drama. Ironic to say the least, the same real life attorney became a corrupt president and killed himself for his remorse. Saying that, in this film we do see the best part of his life, fighting for human rights. How I envy Korean cinema in showcasing a lot of films, Good films, about their tortured past in the Chun Doo-hwan regime, Philippine history had its share of bitter past from the Spaniards, the Americans, the Japs and Marcos' martial law, but we never tell it enough thru the big screen.
