I was expecting Bacurau to be something in the lines of No Country For Old Men or Hell or High Water, because everyone in my country was praising the movie and calling it a "Modern Western". I was very disappointed when I finally watched it. The plot and characters are weak. The pacing is terrible. I wish I could return my ticket. I think the praise is due to the progessive and revolutionary political overtones, and not because the movie is actually good. If you want to see a fine BRA movie, do yourself a favor and watch City of God or Elite Squad instead.

No very different from many B movies I've seen. Very overrated. Terrible cinematography.

A Brazilian Western (or a Northern, since the movie was shot in the wild inner lands of the state of Pernambuco). Some heavily armed American gringos start to hunt the people of a poor village, apparently for sport. Pacote, a former bandit who lives there call his old friends to help. As a sweet note, film has Sonia Braga, 69 Y.O., who is no longer Gabriela Clove & Cinnamon, but is always a pleasure to watch.
