@jtreehorn Often the point is to inspire agency for people, in this case women, who might feel disempower. Most malle heros are also unrealistic and over the top, but it still serves to inspire. The character Scully from X-Files for example has been credited with inspiring a large number of women to enter STEM which statistics confirm. Is this movie going to that? Probably not. Was it poorly executed? Probably. And while I agree that them applying the Hollywood formula for targeting a primarily male demographic to women by simply replacing the main "hero" with a woman is pretty over used and rarely end appealing to either men or women is lame and lazy and dare I say even a bit misogynistic considering the message often boiling don to "if you an't fight like a man then you're useless". But despite all this, the intention behind this is usually to inspire and empower. While they often fail and do it very poorly, it's still intended to balance out a long history of rigid and old dogmatic gender roles as well as other discriminatory stereotypes, which has been for a long time, and still is, a big issue in the US. Not everything is about making money, in fact, making money is just the very bottom of the ladder of success. If making money is more important to you than any of this other stuff then you're still at the bottom of Maslow's pyramid, doing basic survival.
@kawada_kun Found the bot. Now to discover why bots are posting fake reviews on a torrent site. What would be the benefit of that?
@spazticus DJT isn't the problem though, the problem is that you guys are electing him president. And the reason you're doing that is because your entire political system is eroded by excessive capitalism. Entire towns are economically dead, and flooded with mind numbing drugs by a for profit medical industry. Then the children of these people try to improve their lives, but there is no social mobility, so they go of the military, get send of to murder people in a country you can't even find on a map because your education is underfunded, then they come back with PTSD and get stuffed full of the same drugs that screwed up their parents. Rinse and repeat. So no, DJT is not the problem, you are for not keeping your country in order and taking care of your fellow citizens. You deserve DJT.
Update: Watched it now. I don't know why people are complaining, this was nice and campy, just up my ally, really good time. Gave me flashbacks to the original Total Recall, the old Super Mario Bros movie, Johnny Mnemonic, Nirvana, and things like that. These might not be considered the best movies in the world, but they are a particular type of cyberpunkish you don't see much. So I really enjoyed it, can't really point out any single thing I didn't like about it, other than maybe that it was not as funny as the game was and it was a bit straight forward, but that's fairly small things. I get it if people are expecting a 1 to 1, that's why people hated the old Mario Bros movie too (although that wildly deviated which this did not), but the Mario Bros movie is actually a really fun movie in my opinion, and so is Total recall and all those sort of campy sci-fi adventure cyberpunkish type movies from the nineties. It's no Fifth Element, but it was a good time anyway. And that's what I had to say about this, take it or leave it.
@Burnout Thanks for the honest, human, and not politically motivated opinion, it's actually made me decide I'm going to watch it. Not a massive Borderlands fan so I likely won't care that it doesn't live up to the game, and mediocre movie is good enough when I got nothing better to do anyway. I assume there will be shooting and explosions and have a decent enough budget so for getting drunk on a Saturday night it's probably going to be fine. Got all that just from your helpful comment.
@Dmaniac Don't worry, at this point I think it's mostly just Americans and maybe a few Brits that are stupid enough to buy any of this stuff. I'm pretty sure this guy was actually political opposition and they actually murdered him for it, but he also had a bunch of opinions that would make the average American go "oh my gosh, and he didn't apologize for that?" like they do in the US whenever someone has an opinion they don't immediately agree with. But yeah, tons of people in Europe that don't hate Russia. We're a little annoyed that they're making all our food increase, but we also know the US provoked this whole thing on purpose with the help of NATO in order to deplete Russia's resources so they can't help China when they inevitable go after them. The whole thing has USA painted all over it, I don't think there are many people outside the US that would deny that it's just an other US instigated proxy war. While we still think Putin sucks for taking the bait, and also for all the murder, the views most people have is far more nuanced than the childish American perspective, unlike them our nations weren't born yesterday. So while there are definitely a lot of easily influenced young people always screaming their head off about one thing or another everywhere, most rational people definitely take any information coming out of the US or it's overly attached mother Britain with several spoons of salt.
