This was one of my mother's favorite movies when I was growing up. She was a die-hard Robin Williams fan and made sure we were exposed to his work and good, clean comedic fun. Shelley Duvall's incessant whining and crying in The Shining kind of spilled over for me and makes it difficult for me to watch her films but Popeye is still a fun romp with a beloved character who was always mentioned in our house when it came time to eat spinach *gag*
LOL these buffoonish commenters should obviously stick to low brow comedies and the like. They don't even realize that they're part of the problem and the reason films like these have to be made (in 20-effing-20) in the first place. Them: "Oh no! Not an educational piece on the malignant cancer that is racism in America! What about other races that don't face half the hate and institutionalized discrimination as black people do on a daily basis? Don't we matter too?" Those trigger-happy responses prove that they're super comfy in their ignorance and aren't interested in anything that shines a light on it. That's why their first reaction was to lambaste the very premise of the film simply because it is about black people. Ahh.. America. Still lagging behind and clinging to its evil history while claiming to be "the greatest" - *insert deafeningly loud and raucous laughter here*.
