This is one of Makoto Shinkai's earlier works predating his other hit 5 Centimeters Per Second. It hits you right in the feels with its poignant and futuristic twist. This is not a mecha anime, its a story about two people separated by distance and the difficulty of communication. I watched this back in the late 2000s with the love of my life moving to another country. Its a time wherein mobile data is expensive and Facetime was not yet invented. It kinda hits home and hits hard.

Jesus the subtitles. Horrendous.
