It's too bad so many people write it off as a "gay" movie and shut it off after 10 minutes. It's a really sweet coming of age story that goes far deeper than a "gay" story. But you do have to be open to that sort of thing as well. Not every movie needs to be a hyper-masculine punch-fest XD
