Villains are of course all white racists. Penn is particularly juvenile in his representation of a white racist. Naturally most non white people are heroic struggles. This is the usual Hollywood infantile screenplay with zero unique or true insights.

World class visuals--think Roy Andersson, or a little bit David Lynch or Wes Anderson. As for the plot. . . well, the visuals are great.

What's so remarkable is not the ending but the incredible tension it creates seemingly out of nothing. Something is always off and disturbing and you can't say exactly why--this is especially true before the shower scene.

It has that special kind of pain that only very unfunny films provide. After 15 minutes I felt sad and kinda dirty and turned it off.

Absolutely terrific. A sort of real-world horror movie. Extremely relatable, I'd think, to anyone witih a brain who has encountered groupthink.
