To be honest, although this is indeed a decent movie and a wonderful re-interpretation of Murakami's short story and Chekhov's play (Uncle Vanya), I think it's a bit over-longed (though still enjoyable when watched in the theatre) and too explicit in a way where the director expresses his thoughts/ideas via dialogue, with some plot devices just intended for sake of creating a conflict (which is also one thing that undermined the film Parasite in my opinion). In comparison, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy (from the same director Hamaguchi) is a much superior film in that the flow is more natural, characters that resonate with me more, and seemingly smaller scope but still with in-depth exploration on human relationship. Though I would not disagree with what @Yuyoyi has said that it was slightly overrated, I would still recommend people to watch it and of course watch Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy as well.
OMG! Finally it's here! It's the first film that Tarr established his signature style (bleak, pessimistic, existential tone with beautiful B&W cinematography and long shots) and collaboration with novelist László Krasznahorkai (whose signature long, unbroken sentences resonate well with the long shots of Tarr's camera). Thanks for this upload Freeman!
Thx for this Stephen Chow's film! Probably one of the few Chow's films with a cult film vibe. This may not be as well-know as other Chow's films to the international audience (who may see it just as a parody of Léon), but it's very popular among the HKers. It's also probably one of the few films that may reflect Chow's meditation on the relationship between comedy and tragedy, between insanity and normality, in a light-hearted manner.
I welcome every upload as long as it's a Bunuel movie ! Greatly appreciate that ! Though it's not my favourite Bunuel movie and it doesn't the iconic surrealism of a typical Bunuel film, it's also interesting to see Bunuel's realistic take on questioning faith and the crisis faced when faith is collapsing. Btw, it's also one of the favourite films of Tarkovsky.
Thx for making my request come true! Indeed this is not the most famous Dolan, also not my favourite Dolan film but certainly the most interesting, because it's the first time he attempted to venture into the thriller genre (with a Hitchcock or Ozon's movie vibe). Btw, Dolan's upcoming series La nuit où Laurier Gaudreault s’est réveillé is also written with Michel Marc Bouchard (the same screenwriter of Tom à la ferme) so I will be expecting it to have a vibe similar to Tom à la ferme.
