Plot summary

In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist, he’s nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel.

**Three fantastic actors. One boring movie.** Z for Zachariah chronicles three people’s attempts to survive and find companionship in the isolated wilderness of a post-apocalyptic world. The movie revolves more around the initial distrust and growing relationship between the characters. Eventually, these developing bonds are threatened by the romantic feelings of each man for the only woman they have trusted for a very long time. The story slogs along from beginning to end, peppered with moments of hope as this tiny band of characters creates ways to improve their meager circumstances. Sadly the brief hopeful times are overshadowed by the mediocre character drama. Z for Zachariah wastes its incredible cast on a dull movie.

Z for Zachariah

Margot Robbie lives alone in an isolated safe area following some form of epic destruction killing the population of the planet. She finds she is not alone when she comes across a weak Chiwetel Ejiofor. Using his engineering skills they start to build a life together and affection grows but this is put to the test when a third traveller - Chris Pine arrives.Very gentle, believable love triangle tale set against a background of rebuilding lives in a post apocalyptic environment. There are no zombies etc, just a quiet interplay between the 3 and an interesting look at the physical and emotional challenges this world would bring. All three give good performances, especially Robbie, although I rather wished Pine had articulated a bit more.
