It's not that this is a bad remake

It's not that this is a bad remake, although Eastwood brings a much greater sense of menace to the lead role than Watanabe does. I give it low marks because I don't see the purpose of it. This movie follows the exact same story, even cribbing dialogue from the original. Throwing in some swordplay and replacing the original's character development with some mid-nineteenth century Japanese politics doesn't make it any more compelling. If you're Japanese and you want to see a great story in your native language by all means, check it out. Everybody else should stick with the original.
