A nameless ronin, or samurai with no master, enters a small village in feudal Japan where two rival businessmen are struggling for control of the local gambling trade. Taking the name Sanjuro Kuwabatake, the ronin convinces both silk merchant Tazaemon and sake merchant Tokuemon to hire him as a personal bodyguard, then artfully sets in motion a full-scale gang war between the two ambitious and unscrupulous men.
@TBee, Japan bombed us. Im pretty sure they have always thought they were thought, even when he dropped an atomic bomb on their butts... they were still tough after... If you go to Japan youll see their children and system is far superior to the US or UK. The fact their children still respect their parents, and they respect the elderly is fantastic, they still hold great values and are dling their best to obtain a culture as their society is slowly depleting.
1 of the greatest movies ever made! This sparked several spin offs such as Fist Full of Dollars, Last Man Standing, Django (1966) & many TV show episodes; but Yojimbo was also very highly influenced itself by the 1927 novel "Red Harvest" by Dashiell Hammett, & early American westerns like Shane (1953), & High Noon (1952). It was Kurosawa's greatest domestic film, but he regretted making it, thinking the message he wanted to relay about violence in movies was lost, or had an opposite effect.
