5/10: Strong castings in this remake of Chow

5/10: Strong castings in this remake of Chow Yuen Fatt's period gangster TV Series set in Shanghai. It's a dark film with a film noir feel, gritty and, at times, graphically violent. Some of the scenes are dated though. Pretty good entertainment nonetheless.

Well executed with good performances by Andy Lau

Well executed with good performances by Andy Lau and the Late Leslie Cheung. Production design is noteworthy and paired with great cinematography. Tsui Hark as producer incorporated much of his signature style. The ending is well constructed and a fresh take on the TV classic.

Too much romance and drama, not enough crime

Too much romance and drama, not enough crime or action. There are some good shoot outs, and a sweet scene where Lau has his hand attached to a table, but overall it's pretty boring. + Well directed, Great New Years Party - Quite slow, poor film clarity.
