Plot summary

Young orphan Heathcliff is adopted by the wealthy Earnshaw family and moves into their estate, Wuthering Heights. Soon, the new resident falls for his compassionate foster sister, Cathy. The two share a remarkable bond that seems unbreakable until Cathy, feeling the pressure of social convention, suppresses her feelings and marries Edgar Linton, a man of means who befits her stature. Heathcliff vows to win her back.

The best iteration out of 35 or so

The best iteration out of 35 or so, IMO. Earthy, real ambiance captures the period correctness. The windy and wild landscapes fits perfectly. Dalton excels in character, as do whole cast. Robert Fuest did good in bringing this to screen. Love the fact that the melodrama is kept to absolute minimum in exchange for gritty atmosphere. Bronté would have been proud of this. Great work

No adaptation of Wuthering Heights will ever come

No adaptation of Wuthering Heights will ever come close to the 1939 version, and while this one further proves this point, it’s also one of the better ones. It is intense in drama. Nevertheless, the characters, scenarios. and dialogue are just more convincing in the 1939 adaptation, and thus more captivating.

Not the disaster many thinks. It did have the look of an 80s soap and the overall adaptation is reasonably faithful to Bronte's, similar to the Olivier version which ondense or omitted the second generation characters. But everything else is serviceable. Dalton is competent lead, the script engaging.
