Plot summary

Woven is about an Ethiopian immigrant family that

Woven is about an Ethiopian immigrant family that come to live in the United States and meets a Caucasian family. Their lives get intertwined after a tragedy occurs. Shortly after the accident, the two families think that their cultural differences might play a substantial role in their encounter, but soon realize that humanity is connected when it comes to emotions like pain, loss and forgiveness. The film appeals to all human beings as a universal story and is about ways in which we as human beings experience difficult things in life and heal through them. Woven has such a beautiful message and I truly encourage others to see this film.

Cinema buffs and world cinema buffs should skip

Cinema buffs and world cinema buffs should skip it. Directing, photography — disappointing, at least over the first 30 minutes. Very traditional American cinema, predictable storyline scene by scene, from the first seconds of the first shot of most scenes. Episodic, plodding. Acting merely adequate. Mediocre at its core.

Really enjoyed watching this film. Underrepresented, Woven sheds light on Ethiopian culture and successfully displays its beauty on the big screen, focusing especially on the elements of family loyalty and intimacy. Beautifully filmed and written, Woven has reminded me of the significance and impact of the existence of independent film for storytelling. Hats off to Salome, Nagwa and the entire crew of this film! Excited for what's to come next!
