Plot summary

During Stalin's reign of terror, Evgenia Ginzburg, a literature professor, was sent to 10 years hard labor in a gulag in Siberia. Having lost everything, and no longer wishing to live, she meets the camp doctor and begins to come back to life.

Well acted and moving drama based on the autobiography of a Russian woman's experience in Stalin's gulag system during the "Great Purge" of the mid-twentieth century.

Saw this just by chance on pbs. one

saw this just by chance on pbs. one of the best films i've seen recently. --Intense and taut with a great performance by one of my favorite actors Emily Watson. How come this has not played in US theaters?

An excellent film based on a true story

An excellent film based on a true story. Great performance by the leading actors especially Emily Watson. Gripping story about the horrors of the Stalin purges.
